Versions of Reality

     In the world of reality television, a person's life is recorded and viewed by the public, but can be edited to be seen in a different way. In the Hunger Games the public is viewing the competition as a reality television show. They love the dying, the fighting and the love story. Aside from the audience, Katniss has a hard time deciding what's real and what's not.

Politics

    The capitol of Panem is a totalitarian  government, where they control who gets what, when and how.

                             

    In the novel, the capitol will provide a year supply of grain and oil in exchange for an extra entry in the games. this is a way the government manipulates the districts to get what they want.

                                                                   

Sacrifice

   The main act of sacrifice in the story is when Katniss sacrifices herself to take prim's place in the games.

   the act of sacrifice is so important because its shows a human life is worth more than entertainment.                                      

Identity

   Katniss is a type of person that takes care of her family. She hunts and puts food on the table. Her personality is tough, fearless, but she becomes a whole new person in the Hunger Games. During the competition, she becomes this charming and love-sick teenager to get more sponsors.

Society and Class

   Being from a certain class affects the way one is trained and the way one is seen by the audience. Most importantly, coming from a certain society defines whether you have everything or you have nothing. The rich have food, water and even luxuries, such as electricity. The poor have to struggle for food and have close to nothing. 

         

      The rich fight to show their power, while the poor fight to win the supplies and to keep their lives. However, the audience of the Capitol see the Hunger Games as nothing more than entertainment.

Strength and Skill

     

   Strength and skill are important to the novel because each tribute needs strength and skill to survive the Hunger Games. Along with the Career Tributes that were properly trained for a competition like this, Rue has jumping skills, Foxface is sneaky and Peeta can lift heavy objects. Katniss's special skill are aiming with a bow and arrow.

       Katniss uses her skills during the private training session with the Gamemakers to show that she is a strong competitor and is capable of winning. To prove her strength and skills in the Hunger Games, she uses her bow and arrow to kill the tribute that killed Rue.

Appearance

   In the story, the Capitol presents its power and comfortable lifestyle though television screens and other fancy technology to make an appearance. The Capitol dresses all the tributes in fancy clothing for the ceremony, which explains Katniss in her coal suit.

  The fancy appearance can get tributes more sponsor as well.

Love

 
   Love is in story and can be seen through Peeta and Katniss.  Because the stakes are so high, Katniss did not trust Peeta even though he showed her kindness.

 
 ''Love'' was used to trick the audience so Katniss and Peeta could get sponsors. As this love act went along. Katniss seemed to be falling in love with Peeta for real.

Power

       

   Throughout the story the capitol shows their power by ruling over the people and creating laws for the districts. Originally, there were 13 districts. But when they rebelled, the Capitol destroyed 13 other districts did not rebel, the capitol created the Hunger Games to control them. the 13 districts of Panem can be compared to the 13 colonies of New England. During British rule, the colonies gave crops, such as squash, and tobacco over to Great Britain. Britain even created laws for the people of the colonies. this explains the picture for this theme.

   Katniss goes against the rules by trespassing in the woods to hunt which explains the electric fence.
